This past week I've had the pleasure of meeting some clients who know they want to make a move, but are not sure if a condo is the way to go, or does a house fit their needs. That got me thinking, how do you know if a condo makes sense for you?
Most people will agree that the lifestyle of living in a house compared to that of a condominium is very different. So the real question is, what sort of lifestyle do you envision for yourself at this point in your life? This is the most important thing I discuss with my clients when deciding if a condo or a house makes sense for them.

Do you spend a lot of time at home, or is your home more a place to eat, sleep, and do laundry? With most condo's today, space is a very expensive luxury. So if you are the type to spend quite a bit of time at home, or like to entertain guests a condo may not be the way to go. However, if you are home very little and spend most of your time, out working, at social events, or lucky enough to vacation a lot, a condo makes a lot of sense for you.

Sure with a condo come the dreaded condo fees. However, if you are in the busy gotta be out of the house the entire time category then do you really have the time to take care of maintaining your place all on your own? If time and freedom are important to you, the condo fee really isn't that bad. Let the condo corporation worry about the windows, the furnace, landscaping, and most of the other major expensive. Assuming your condo or future condo does a good job of managing the reserve fund, you are already budgeting for all these maintenance costs. That way, no massive lump sum payment in the future!! What this equals is more money, for the social scene and the next adventure vacation.
