Third Degree Burns

What causes razor burns? A simple chore like shaving can cause severe burns. However, this can be dealt with easy and useful home care remedies, instead of using chemical products and oral medicine. Razor burn is usually caused due to thick, coarse hair and sensitive skin.

First of all, keep in mind that prevention is better than cure. So use shaving cream instead of soap as it may dry your skin very easily making it more prone towards razor burns. Pay extra attention if you have sensitive skin. Never use another persons razor.

Another prevention method is to prepare your skin before you shave. Use hot compresses on the areas to be shaved; this will dampen the area for easier shave. Dowse a wash cloth in hot water mixed with lavender essential oil. Use this cloth on your skin and pat it several times. Before shaving apply a thin layer of moisturizing oil such as avocado or jojoba. Start shaving in the direction of the hair growth which will prevent any inflammation of the skin.

Razor burn can be treated by patting apple cider vinegar at the affected areas.

Dissolve two uncoated aspirins in a teaspoon of warm water. Mix it into a paste and rub it on your skin. Keep it for sometime and wash it later with luke warm water. You will have no burning sensation.

A home made razor burn mask can be made by using 2 strawberries and 1 tsp sour cream. Mash strawberries and mix sour cream into a fine paste. Once done with your shaving you can apply this on your face and legs. Leave it for 10 minutes and wash it later. If done even twice a week it would keep your skin fresh and free from burns.

To make a soothing lotion you would need 1 tablespoon each of dried comfrey leaves and dried calendula flowers to be mixed in 1/2 cup of witch hazel extract for two weeks. Strain and mix 1/4 cup of witch hazel mixture with 1/4 cup of rose water. In this solution add 1/4 tsp vegetable glycerin, 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of sandalwood essential oil. Store it in a cool place and shake it well before use.
