I don't think a fever blister or cold sore will ever be an "in" look. Outbreaks of fever blisters are happening all the time, all over the world. They usually happen in winter but don't be fooled - they'll pop up in the spring, summer, and fall too. I had one on my lip only a week ago, and it's just starting to dissipate (they hurt!). One thing I wish I would have done is look into a fever blister remedy. Since everyone is affected by fever blisters, fever blister remedies are becoming mighty popular, and I would like to discuss some of them with you here so you can have the knowledge to shorten the duration.

A good method that I find works quite well is to apply some type of petroleum jelly to your fever blister in question. There are many products designed for this and you can get them at any convenience store such as Target or Wal-Mart. . Remember, fever blisters and cold sores hurt so apply this stuff gently! Also, petroleum jelly can't cure your fever blister, it can only quell some of the symptoms that arrive due to the fever blister (just like you can't get rid of a cold and have to treat the symptoms, it has to go away on it's own). Be careful because for some people it can spread the virus so it really depends on your own body.

Antiviral is the stuff that heals the fever blister. If your fever blister gets bad enough, you might want to go to the doctor and see about meeting with a dermatologist. Dermatologists work with the skin and treating fever blisters is on their job description. The point of this is to get an antiviral medication prescription which has been approved by the FDA. Doctors can heal you better than you could yourself, so if you have the time and the money, think about seeing one after trying the petroleum jelly and waiting a couple of weeks route.

Lastly, and one that most people don't think of - avoid salty and acidic foods. Foods like this can cause your fever blister to burn and get inflamed. This will ultimately make it last longer and cause you even more discomfort and pain. Avoiding these foods will make sure you're on a road to full recovery from your fever blisters, and is in itself a good fever blister remedy to try. Remember to drink plenty of water also and have good hygiene. Dirt and other bacteria can get into your fever blister and cause infection. Keep a watch on it.

Fever blisters are aggravating, plain and simple. Remember they are viral, so be careful about your romantic contact. They can be contagious and sadly we may not know when one is dormant on one's lip. Learn more about the triggers and how having dry lips, low immunity and other factors influence the growth of cold sores.
