It should not be advisors that dissertation writers need to be wary of, but certain enemies within every writer’s core. Here are the top three intrinsic foes that thesis writers should eliminate in order to author an exceptional paper with less stress and less headaches:

Procrastination
Contrary to popular belief that time is never on the side of dissertation writers, it is actually the habit of procrastination that triggers most of the paper’s unpolished condition and last-minute troubles.

On the average, a student is granted one to two academic years to work on a thesis. Given that time period, it has then become a normal occurrence on writers to become lax and careless at the beginning. Instead of starting earnestly with the dissertation formulation and corresponding research, there is that force to put off said work for a while. And whether it be due to the feeling of dread or overconfidence, the fact remains that while the dissertation writer is delaying the inevitable, time is constantly marching towards the deadline.

Indeed, it is so much better to start early and have enough time to cover all the dissertation’s bases (and yes, hopefully finish early), than to procrastinate at the beginning and be assailed later on with the pressure to fit all the thesis tasks under the reduced timeframe.

Writer’s Block
The chief culprit of writer’s block points to this unreasonably high expectation to write brilliantly in an instant. Such expecting then weighs down the writer, so much so that it comes to a point when the brain simply blocks off any possible idea for fear of it not being perfect enough.

Thus, it needs to be hammered in the minds of all dissertation writers that there is no such thing as a flawless thesis chapter (or any literary piece for that matter) in the first try. It is perfectly fine to bungle it up in the first draft, where the operative words (there’s two of them) are ‘first’ and ‘draft.’ Indeed, there is the first draft, and the second draft, and the third draft, and so on, until the polished final paper materializes.

If a particular thesis section like the introduction is just brimming with expectations as it usually does, the writer can skip it first and write wherever it feels comfortable. The important thing is to just write, letting the ideas go free and flow into the paper. There is almost always enough time (that is, if the writer dodged the procrastination trap) to revise and perfect the paper after.

The Early Internal Editor
Every writer has an internal editor that is bursting to tear the paper into shreds if it’s not worthy enough. The key point here is to make sure that this internal critic is securely reigned in during the writing process. Why so? For the simple reason that nobody, even the most skilled writer, can come up with a inspired piece when something keeps harping to correct this and revise that. The bulk of the creative energy needs to be spent in writing the dissertation, not on editing every word that comes to mind.

For that, the writer’s internal editor needs to surface only when the dissertation has been roughly completed. So how to go about this? By writing fast. In writing fast, not only will dissertation writers catch up with the high speed, and often fleeting manner, of creative thought, it will also be able to leave behind the always-hesitating internal critic. In this way, the writer will be able to write freely, while the internal editor catches up in the time that it should. What results is an efficient manner of dissertation writing.

These are only three enemies of dissertation writers. There are really several more, but these three keeps on cropping up on the top pile of headache-inducing troubles. It is then best if every writer comes prepared in warding off these enemies, in order to get the most out of writing the dissertation piece.
