If you are in debt, you are no doubt wondering what debt relief options are available. Paying off debt and credit counseling is one option for debt relief. While this in not the only option for debt repayment, it is one that can help you get out of debt through the use of debt consolidation without the use of a loan.

I often wonder why a person with debt problems would get a home loan to pay off their credit cards. If you have credit card debt, your creditors can close your accounts, call you and put negative entries on your credit report, but they cannot take your home. If you get a secured debt consolidation loan and you default on the loan, the lender can start foreclosure proceedings on your home. A loan to pay off debts, in most cases, is not in your best interest.

Credit counseling, however, is a debt relief option that is not a loan, but it does consolidate your debt. In my opinion, this is one of the best benefits of credit counseling. Your credit counselor will calculate your monthly payment and you will make one payment each month to credit counseling company. The debt counseling company will disburse that payment to your creditors.

Your credit counseling company will also handle any interaction with your creditors. You know longer will be talking with your creditors and once they have the name and phone number with your credit counselor, you will not get anymore collection calls.

It is important that you abide by the agreement that exists between your creditors and the credit counseling company. Some creditors will drop you from the program if you miss payments.

Credit counseling can save you hundreds and even thousands of dollars in interest by reducing your interest rates. Most major credit card companies will reduce your interest rates to 10 percent or less and some companies will even eliminate your interest. If you are not confident that you can make your payment each month, you may want to consider another debt relief option.

There are other benefits to credit counseling, but these are the ones that will have the biggest impact on your debt and your peace of mind. If you are looking for a way to pay off your credit cards, you should consider credit debt counseling. Not only will your credit counselors help you become debt-free, they will educate you on remaining debt-free and building a financially stable future.
