Imagine you’re at a music festival; chances are that you probably won’t be able to hear much above the pounding music and the roar of the crowd.

So why, you may ask, would you have a need to take your phone?

Indeed, despite the sometimes treacherous weather conditions and the increased risk of theft, many still carry their mobile phones with them at all times during the festival – in order to snap pictures, record their favourite songs and send text messages (if not to make some of their mates jealous)

Many revellers now have a range of cheap mobile phones, with models that utilise constantly developing camera technology in order to ensure that your festival memories can be captured with the click of a button.

For those who still want to carry their mobile phones with them, the main problem is when the battery runs out – for where are you going to find a power supply in the middle of a muddy field surrounded by several thousand fellow festival-goers?

But now there could be hope for those who swear by their mobile phones, as one mobile phone provider is hoping to make use of natural resources in order to provide power for revellers whose battery runs out mid-festival.

By using a combination of wind and solar energy in order to power a turbine, the energy of which can be stored and used to recharge mobile phones, these mobile charging tents could provide an opportunity for festival-goers to relax and chat while they wait for their phones to charge.

The tents use lockable pods in which the phones are connected to the power supply. Locker keys are given to the phones’ owner to keep with them until their return, upon which the phone is returned for further snapping and filming opportunities.

If the technology proves to be successful, you could very well see these ‘charging tents’ popping up at future festival events – with the upcoming Glastonbury festival having the chance to put the technology through its paces.
