New legislation in the United Kingdom means that it is now illegal to make a call using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving.
The legislation states that for a device to count as hand held that it must need to be held in the hand at some point before, during or after the call.
The legislation does not include hands-free mobile phones (which forms the body of this article) but drivers need to be aware that they can still be distracted while using these devices. Additionally the police are still at liberty to prosecute if they feel use of the hands free was impairing a drivers ability to “properly control” their vehicle.
The simplest way to ensure that you don’t fall foul of this new legislation, stay on the right side of the law and most importantly stay safe on the road is to use an in-car holder such as the Brodit ProClip.

Brodit ProClip holders mount your phone in a convenient, accessible location so that you can reach it just as simply as you do controls on your dashboard. They come supplied with simple fitting instructions, any tools that are required and can be fitted in seconds. You can choose from a variety of mounting locations with these devices, the most common locations are on the dashboard or near the car stereo.
Dashboard mounted ProClips are typically fitted over an air vent, either to the left or right of the steering wheel. This location means that you can see the screen of the device whilst driving and allows access to the device whilst driving without needing to take your eyes off the road.
A lower mounted holder, near the car stereo, is typically mounted beside the central console and the glove compartment. This position is less appropriate for mobile phones as, just like when using the stereo, you must stretch to use your phone. It has the advantage that the screen is likely to avoid the sun so should be easy to read.

Brodit holders are produced to fit specific car and mobile phone combinations so you need to make sure you buy the correct device for your needs. If you buy the wrong holder for either you particular car or phone you will likely find that you’ll have problems.
The Brodit range of holders is absolutely huge and choosing the right holder can be a bit daunting. The Brodit website and some retailers have tools on them that makes finding the right Brodit for you car easy.
So stay safe, fit an in-car mobile phone holder.
