Trying to send anything to the boss of a company is a difficult chore. Anything you send will likely go through multiple screening processes before it ever gets put on the boss’s desk. Any person in charge of a company is going to be busy, and so most of the letters sent are never going to be seen due to a busy schedule. Because of this you need to know how to bypass all of that screening and make sure your mail gets opened by the person in charge.

The first thing you need to watch out for is anything like putting urgent, or any other thing that is commonplace on junk mail. If you’re trying to hard to make your material look urgent than odds are they’ll think that it isn’t worthwhile at all.

What you want to do is try something unique and different with your color printing. Sending your messages in a box or something else that stands out in the mess of letters is a good way to get noticed. Something out of the norm will be more likely to be brought to the attention of the person in charge.

You need to make your package looks important without screaming it by saying that it’s important on the envelope. Placing your marketing material in a box or a larger envelope that has a bulge makes it look important without words. It will cost you more money to bundle up your message in a different style of packaging, but the very fact that you were willing to spend extra money shows that your message is more important than those plain, white envelopes.

Going along the lines of spending more money, I’d try to send everything through overnight mail if you’re able to. Just like the example above, that extra money translates into a stronger desire to get into contact with the boss. People willing to fork over the additional cash are people who understand how urgent their message really is.

Anything labeled as overnight is going to be taken directly to the right person and bypass the sorting. The extra money will definitely be worth the improved chance you’ll have at having your material seen.

Finally, if your message is combined with useful information the boss is a lot more likely to take interest in it. Someone in charge of a large company is going to jump at any information that can help their company do better. Figure out something useful you can tell them and use color printing to give it to them in a unique format.

By giving them the information you’ll get in return their undivided attention when it comes to your marketing pitch.

Sometimes getting a message to anyone in charge can seem like storming a fortress, but if you use these techniques you can greatly improve your odds of getting your material directly onto their desk.
