In this article, we will talk about a method that I have used many times to create quick and easy websites with little or no software costs.
My method is explained in fuller detailed in a report entitled How to Build a Website.
Your task starts with finding a domain name. When you go to the address bar of a website and type in www.thisdomain.com you are typing in a URL. I often think of the term URL as tech speak for the location of a site on the world wide web.
Once you have decided upon a name you must register it before someone else does. Here you may find some challenges as many good names have already been reserved. Go to a domain name registrar and type in terms. When a term that you like is available, register it immediately.
The next thing you need to do is secure a hosting agreement. A hosting provider will provide you with the ability to upload your pages to the web. There are numerous hosting companies you can use and their services are usually quite inexpensive.
A few technical steps are needed at this stage to direct your new domain name towards your hosting account. I go into greater detail on the resource that I mentioned above and again in my resource box below this article.
After you have completed these steps, you will need to find a html editor, that is a piece of software that will allow you to create pages for your website. Whether you would rather find a free resource or pay for a more professional program, you have quite a few options.
I enjoy using a platform called wordpress because it is free and very easy to use. Wordpress provides a backend interface that allows non-technical type people, like me, to quickly and easily create webpages and make changes to the pages I have up on my website.
This option is very appealing to me because it means that I do not have hire an expensive technical person every time I want to make a simple change to my website or add a simple page. I go into detail and showcase a few videos about using wordpress as well as other html editors in my report.
Rob Bennett has been building websites for over a year and feels his hobbyist approach relates well to the average, non-technical-type, webmaster. He provides step by step instructions on how to build a website in just a few hours on his squidoo lens http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-build-a-website1.
