  1. Follow your interests. Profitable auctions aren’t always rare antiques that sell for thousands of dollars. Successful eBay sellers auction items that they are passionate about. Choose products that you are interested in, such as jewelry, sports equipment, apparel, electronics, or toys.

  2. Start small. Put up a few smaller items at first, they are easier to pack and ship. Save the larger items until you have a little more experience.

  3. A picture is worth a thousand words. Make sure you always include a photo with your description. Buyers will feel more confident bidding on an item they can see. If you intend to sell a large volume of products, a digital camera would be a good investment.

  4. Write an informative title. Fill your titles with informative information, such as color, size, model number, condition, and quantity. Avoid using filler words such as ‘Wow!’ Or ‘Cool!’. eBay limits the number of characters in auction titles, and that space is better used for keywords.

  5. Include a detailed description. Include as much as you know about your product. If your item is used, include any details about imperfections such as scratches or smudges.

  6. Include all of your requirements upfront. Write out what payments you accept, what discounts you offer, what kind of shipping you use, your policy regarding unpaid items, etc.

  7. Answer buyer’s questions promptly and thoroughly. Check your messages often, and answer questions as soon as you receive them. Above all, be polite.

  8. Send an invoice. Even if you don’t think you need to, an invoice looks professional and prompts your buyer to pay. To send one, press the button marked ‘Send Invoice’ next to your auction listing in the ‘My eBay’ dashboard.
