OK, maybe I went a little overboard. But it is true that having a cheat day can help you reach your fitness goals. If you only give your body healthy food it may be good for the body, but its HORRIBLE on the mind! Humans have wants and needs, and chief among them is a German Chocolate Cake every now and again. If you don’t ever give into those desires, it builds frustration and resentment towards the program you’re on, and to exercise in general. You may even say that exercise isn’t worth the sacrifices.
Of course it is worth the sacrifices!
So don’t build up psychological stress over a Big Mac and fries every so often. You’re working out enough that those things will barely register if you only eat them once per week, so don’t be afraid to take a weekly free day and have some fun! The extra calories you burn from staying on your program will more than make up for the apple pie you get on your cheat day. Have fun with your cheat day, and eat healthy the rest of the week. That’s the way to grow!
