Strategies for Promotional Items

There are many factors to consider when offering a promotional item. Success of a promotional item isn’t merely a toss, it is a process of careful planning, in order to achieve a larger clientele base taking into consideration a targeted audience, a financial plan, and a goal. Here are five steps that can be taken to ensure the success of a promotional item:

A) Outline a plan. The bottom line is to increase sales with a promotional item that bears the name of your company and/or a logo. The first step is to determine where and how the item will be used. Will they be distributed at a trade show, used as a business gift, used to promote a new product, or simply to generate new leads? It is important to know the direction before a course of action is taken.

B) Create a plan for circulation. This is an important factor, just as vital as the promotional item itself. Circulation to the proper targeted audience will drastically increase the efficacy of promotional items. A good example of this; offering a promotional item (personalized computer mouse) to an audience that responded to an invitation will produce more results than simply handing them out at a trade show.

C) Organize a theme. If you create a uniform color scheme, along with a logo, then this will ideally be more easily recognized. Use the theme on all products related to the campaign (folders, papers, pens, etc.).

D) A theme is more successful with a message. Tie your product to a message that supports the product (or your service), as it will be easier to associate your product or service with the need. People tend to remember a business name more readily when there is an association.

E) The promotional item should have a correlation with the service or product offered by your business. Again, this makes it easier for people to associate the promotional item with your business. Be creative. Even if the promotional item is simply a coffee mug and you operate a dry cleaning business, create a slogan such as, “wake up and smell the coffee, but don’t spill it-call us if you do.”

If these simple steps are followed, it will make a great deal of difference with a promotional item. A promotional item is an investment and it is important to create a plan in order to get the most out of the investment made.
