The best way to build credibility is to just go out there and say, “Here’s a gift. Here’s a seminar you can do. Here’s a list.” Go to as many seminars as you can and start mingling with the heavy hitters, because they’re the movers and shakers of business. They are all sharpening their own saw on a regular basis. They are not staying stagnant.
It’s remarkable how fast some of these people move. It’s incredible, really. They have great teams and they have great partnerships. All of these people that are at the forefront of industry have people who endorse them all of the time.
It’s amazing how many good people are out there and have a huge following that really just want to see someone succeed who doesn’t have the experience. They’ve been where you are, and they understand the pitfalls. In fact, many have experienced major setbacks financially before they “made it big.”
As soon as you get out there and start associating with major people in your niche, you want to take an action to get relationships going, because one thing ends up leading to another, especially when you’re building relationships. And as soon as you can start leveraging what someone else has that you don’t, that’s what strategic alliance is all about.
Everyone has something that is a key element, some sort of knowledge in their industry to offer a joint venture partner. The secret is to figure out what it is that you possess:
• Is it your knowledge base?
• Is it your clients?
• Is it your sales personnel?
• Is it your technology?
• Is it your distribution?
It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be any one of a number of things. You have to figure out how you’re going to leverage your asset and tap into all of your underutilized assets, all of your overlooked opportunities.
The joint venture mindset comes from an abundance mentality, not a competition mentality. Anything is possible when you’re dealing with unlimited resources, and from that point of view you start building credibility. In the beginning, if you go out of your way to benefit the JV partner and not focus on yourself, it will end up coming back to you. When you build your credibility, major players are happy to give you endorsements and testimonials, all of which adds to your credibility.
