Ever see that little guy in the gym always working out hard but never seems to really see any results? You see him in there every single day pumping weights and sweating harder than anyone is in the gym, but he’s still that same “skinny kid” that he was 6 months ago… A little depressing huh? I mean, all it takes is the motivation to get in there and throw those weights around, right? Surely you’re supposed to see some types of results eventually… right? Wrong! Actually, nothing could be further from the truth! There is a science to building muscle… three simple factors that makes all the difference… and if you do not follow these steps then you are destined for failure and you will never see the results you want.
First, you have to increase your protein intake. Protein is essential to your muscle’s growth and development. You can not possibly expect to build your muscles if you do not “feed” them. It just does not make since… Think about it for a second… What happens to any living plant or creature if it does not get the food and nutrients that it needs? It dies! That’s right… so you can not possibly expect to build any muscle if all you do is work it out all day and then starve it to death. It’s just not going to happen… sorry… I know the truth hurts…
Second, you have to let your body rest! Do not get me wrong, I give those people that are literally in the gym every single day doing a complete body work out the up most praise! They are extremely motivated and have incredible will power! So I take my hat off to them… but… there is still a problem. If you are trying to build muscle, this is not helping your cause… your body needs at least 24 hours of rest time between workouts. This means, you can not work the same body parts several days in a row. By doing this, your body does not have the time it needs to heal itself. So… if the muscles can not rest and rebuild, then they can not grow!
Third, you need to change up your work out! It amazes me how some people will actually go through the same work out routine the same exact way for months… or even years! Once again, it’s great that you are actually consistent and take the time to care for your body... but this is not the way to go… Your body is designed to be as “lazy” as possible! It wants to figure out a way to get the job done while using the least amount of energy possible. So over time, it adapts to your workout plan and it no longer has to really “work”. (lazy) In order to build muscle, you have to constantly shock your system. This means that you have to change your workout schedule on a regular basis to keep your body on its “toes”. This way it is always working hard and you will continue to see great results!
Although it sounds crazy, gaining weight and muscle can be a real challenge for some people. Trust me, I know first hand… but it is very possible! It just takes a little work. So by increasing your protein intake, managing your rest time and changing your work out plan regularly, you’ll definitely start to see the results you are looking for in no time!
