Many people choose porcelain veneers to solve common teeth problems, such as worn-down, chipped and broken teeth. In addition, porcelain veneers are widely used as a cosmetic treatment to solve tooth discoloration caused from root canal treatments and staining from tetracycline, or other drugs and chemicals.

Porcelain veneers provide a natural tooth appearance and are stain resistant. More importantly, gum tissues find porcelain veneers more compatible than other options. Because of these advantages, porcelain veneers are viable options for many tooth problems.

But as you might expect, there are downsides to porcelain veneers that should be considered before making a treatment decisions. Among the disadvantages is the fact that the process is not reversible. Once the process is begun, there is no turning back.

Price can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. Veneers are typically more costly than dental bonding, but less expensive than dental implants.

Tooth sensitivity to hot and cold may increase with veneers basically because to apply the veneers 25% of the tooth's enamel must be removed to facilitate them. In addition, it is still possible to experience tooth decay, which may result in yet another procedure to install a dental crown.

Another disadvantage to veneers to consider are that veneers are not usually repairable. Should a veneer chip or crack, it will have to be replaced with a dental crown. The final disadvantage is that porcelain veneers only last from five to ten years and then they would need to be replaced.

Porcelain veneers can be a viable and affordable solution to many common teeth problems despite the disadvantages. In truth, every dental procedure has advantages and disadvantages. The best solution for a particular dental problem should only be chosen after considering both.
