Leaders The Sign On The Door Says So

Very often leaders especially newly appointed leaders, want so desperately to make an impact on their organization that they over control their subordinates. Leaders try to demonstrate how much they know beyond what the supervisor knows about performing the job.

By over compensating for their knowledge, status, title, and corner office or parking space the leader is causing an unnecessary morale problem and a lack of confidence in leadership. The result is a breakdown in production and not meeting required outcomes.

You must not focus on the day-to-day decisions but on the big picture; will you have the necessary resources, personnel, money or materials to conduct business.

As a leader you have nothing to prove because the sign on the door says you’re the leader. Everyone knows you are the leader, manager or supervisor. Your manager will give you credit or blame appropriately without your proving to your subordinates that you are in charge.


The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That's nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.
