Conventional cotton has been subjected to pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers or other chemicals. As per the agricultural reports available, conventional cotton is one of the most chemically-dependent crops, sucking up 10% of all agricultural chemicals and 25% of insecticides on 3% of our arable land which is more than any other crop per unit. That adds up to 1/3 of a pound of chemicals to produce enough cotton for a t-shirt, and 3/4 of a pound for a pair of jeans. According to reliable sources, 20,000 deaths occur each year from pesticide poisoning in developing countries, many of these from cotton farming, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

On the other hand, organic cotton is good for your babies’ skin. People with sensitive skin and allergies oftentimes wear solely organic cotton, but this fabric is not only for them. Babies’ skin is thinner and more porous than that of adults, so they are more at risk for absorbing chemicals. Organic cotton is pure cotton that is natural and allows you to feel healthier. Clothes made of organic cloth may cost more than those made of conventional cotton, but organic products last much longer. Wearing something that is known is comfortable, safe, and good for the skin and eco friendly.

Nowadays parents are aware of the harm that chemicals can do to their children's skin. They buy only organic baby clothes instead of going for the much cheaper alternatives. Apart from saving lives, buying organically made clothes is going to save the planet as well. The skin of a baby is far more porous than that of an adult. So any chemicals that are on the clothes they wear can be far more easily and readily absorbed by their bodies. So the clothes wearing could be doing more harm than good.

Organic clothing is made from cotton is grown using all natural processes, and no chemicals used. But just because the price of this type of clothing is higher than others do not be put off purchasing it. This type of clothing is also far more comfortable to wear and because no chemicals have been in contact with it the material is much stronger and lasts longer.

Biological methods are used to grow all organic cotton rather than chemical methods. Therefore, if at any stage the plants become infested with pests then alternative methods of treating the infestation are used. To remove the pests either other insects or organic pesticides are used and when ready for picking most organically grown cotton is picked by hand. Again this saves not only on the people working within the cotton farming industry but also on the planet as well.

Before buying any organic baby clothes it is better to read the labels and descriptions carefully. Only purchase items which clearly state on them that they have been made using 100% certified organic cotton. The colors used in the clothes are also to be seen. Organic clothes manufacturers only use natural inks and dyes to provide the vibrant colors on their materials at any time and at no stage should they have come into contact with chemicals such as bleach.

Organic cotton is a lot softer than other types of cotton that have been grown and produced using chemicals. This then reduces the chances of a baby’s skin that is very sensitive anyway from being further irritated. So the chances of them suffering from any kind of skin allergies or complaints such as eczema are reduced to a great extent.
