Potty Training Aids For Success

Potty training can be an intimidating process. There are several things parents can do to make the it less stressful and more interesting for your child.

Music as a Potty Training Aid

Most young children enjoy music and have several favorite songs. Singing with your child while she's on the potty can help prevent her from becoming bored and wanting to get up before she's done. If she learns to stay on the potty until she's done, it will cut down on the number of accidents.

Favorite Toys

There are actually potty training dolls available that drink a bottle of water then “potty” in the toilet. This can help in the beginning to show your child what you want her to do. Later in the process, letting your child bring a toy into the bathroom with her or using a toy to “ask” her if she needs to potty can be a way to get a resistant child to use the potty.

Healthy Treats

Occasional food rewards for a successful potty training session can be a good idea. Most parents don't use candy for good reason.

For More Information on Potty Training Aids

The market for children’s developmental toys and technology is steadily growing. Parents can even get a child a potty chair with toys and music included! Search the internet or go to a children’s store to see what's available that may appeal to your child.

As with everything, use your best judgment to evaluate the potty training aids you find or hear about. Be aware that something that worked for your friend's child, may not appeal to your child at all. It's very much a process of trial and error.
