Myths interconnected with online working keeps a good number of people away from the opportunity even if they have the resources. Some of these are virtually pointless and reflects a whole other side when you dig in to the details.

All those sites are garbage.
If you do a Google search on “online working/jobs” you’ll end up with thousands of web sites offering astonishing online vacancies where you have to work less & earn more. You need lot of technology.
Think so? Wrong! Technology is no longer a limiting factor in an online job. Although you need a basic set of requirements such as a pc or a laptop and a telecommunication link, you don’t have to worry about having high end IT equipment. Broadband Internet is becoming popular and inexpensive these days making it easier to keep in touch with your employer’s intranet.

Traveling is better compared to paying for the ISPs
How much are you ready to pay for a vehicle to travel to the workplace? How many hours per week are you driving or traveling? How about wasting time and money in those long traffic queues? How about human relationships?
With whom do you like to spend most of your time? Is it with your managers or with your family members? Telecommuting is a good fortune to live regularly with your family which is most important in for you, especially if you are a mother nourishing an infant! It increases your freedom, flexibility and takes away the fatigue of work related travel while humanizing your human relationships. In fact Tele-workers would enjoy the equivalent of an extra 5 work weeks of free time each year.

You can’t be a professional with an online position.
In reality researchers have found that some of the jobs can be carried out better by means of telecommunication. According to Wikipedia telecommuting seems to work best for professionals such as engineers and writers.

Managing employees online is tricky.
From a managers point of view telecommuting can be seen as a shortage of direct contact with the employee making the thing a little uneasy. But this fear again has found to be wrong if the management is well aware about the technology and if they focus more on results rather than close inspection on employees. The strategy is known as management by objective as opposed to management by observation. It even decreases the absenteeism of employees because their working from home!

No special gain in the business point of view
In the perspective of a traditional business, the cost of setting up the initial technical environment for an online business can be greater. Nevertheless when compared with the operating costs of conventional offices, cost to connect a telecommuter to their employer's intranet and telecommunications system has become negligible and produce long term payback to the organization. Studies reveal that usually 70 minutes of each day in a regular office are wasted by interruptions, yakking around the photocopier, and other distractions. Contrast this with a Tele-worker who is always in the higher side of the productivity role.
