Our more, more, more society

The US is built on capitalism and capitalism is not necessarily a bad thing.
Unfortunately, in this capitalistic society people can become enthralled by the acquisition of things and money to the point of detrement.

I am all for people pursuing a better life or standard of living as long as it is by legal means.

The aspect of our society that is increasing is the premium put on this pursuit as well as the "by all means necessary" attitude associated with it.

Pursuing a better standard of living is good but at the expense of others and without any regard to how this affects others is troubling.

We are all connected and what one does in the course of life does have an affect on at least one person - usually more than one.

Just keep in mind that we have an obligation to the greater good not just our own greater good.

Perform a small act of kindness ever so often to balance out your life.

This act of kindness doesn't have to cost anything or take much of your time. It can be as simple as opening a door for someone or being patient as you wait in line.

Take a macro view of life from time to time. It's good to break from the micro view we all have from day to day and it can be very cathartic.

Life can be enjoyed by taking joy in the small things in life - it makes the bigger things in life that more enjoyable.
