Many popular acne brands today like Sensiclear uses the ingredient salicylic acid in order to treat many of the skin problems acne sufferers have that result in acne. This acid isn't widely known because most acne sufferers don't check the ingredients in an acne solution before applying it. However, this ingredient is given special attention because it is the leading ingredient in many acne creams, and it sometimes can be used alone without anything else to treat acne. There are many ways to make salicylic acid more effective in treating clogged pores.

Most acne creams use low concentrations of salicylic acid to stay safe and prevent any damage to the skin, using a concentration of roughly 2.5 percent. However, many acne sufferers are immune to such low concentrations and do not realize they need a higher concentration in order for this acid to work. Higher concentrations of salicylic acid do sting a little, but they are more effective in penetrating the skin to provide maximum assistance in the treatment of acne. Salicylic acid does smell like rubbing alcohol and has a similar effect on the skin, however it dries out pimples in the process, so it does so much more than rubbing alcohol. Often you can sense your acne oozing out of your skin after applying salicylic acid.

However, salicylic acid doesn't come without side-effects. When applying this chemical, you should be aware that it dries out the skin. This isn't a problem, but when it over dries the skin, acne breakouts can occur. Also, this acid can become dangerous if used inappropriately, so it should be handled with care. Overall, salicylic acid is one of the leading ingredients for treating acne, and you may wish to use an acne cream that contains this chemical.
