The credit crunch is undoubtedly having an impact on many areas of life and has rarely been out of the news recently. Disposable income is at a premium for many people, but how can you keep looking fashionable without affecting your finances?

One of the main things you can do to avoid feeling the pinch is to shop smarter. Certain things never go out of fashion; classic white tee-shirts for example are incredibly versatile and can go with many different looks; pair with a pair of jeans for a leisurely stroll or wear under a casual shirt for a trip to the local, or even with a waistcoat or suit jacket for a smarter appearance, for example.

By selecting the right accessories you can give yourself any number of different looks. Maybe you’ve got a favourite t-shirt that would look great with a cap, or a stylish jumper that would be offset nicely by a matching scarf. Belts, sunglasses, bags and ties can all bring a little something extra to a tired old look. So by investing a small amount you can breathe new life into the clothes you already own.

Another clever way to shop is to hold out for a sale. If you don't mind waiting you’ll often find that retailers will reduce items in preparation for new stock arriving. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the sale items are old hat, just that they’ve served their shelf life as it were. However, you can still look great when you grab a bargain, it’s not all about what your clothes look like but also about how you wear them.

When money’s tight and you’re keen on refreshing your wardrobe then why not make some space and a bit of extra money at the same time by selling your old clothes online, perhaps through auction websites or online classifieds? Everyone loves a bargain and you could earn enough money to buy yourself something new as a result.

It may sound obvious but buying clothes that are a good fit is essential when you’re trying to save money. Squeezing into jeans that are a size too small in order to soothe your ego will do you no good at all if you need to shell out for another pair a few months down the line, so make sure you try everything on before you buy. If it feels a bit tight or you’re not sure if it looks right then try on something else until you’re completely happy that your chosen item of clothing is both comfortable to wear, and fits your style.

With the increase in variety and styles of mens clothing in recent years, it’s become easier to create the look and feel you want without having to spend a handsome sum of money.
