The field of telecommunications has been growing at a fantastic rate in recent years. Today, likely customers of phones are confronted by such a wide selection in the marketplace that they find it hard to make a decision, whether such people are looking for the equipment to function in their office or residence.

Buyers discover it is even more tricky to make a decision as they are uncertain of what they actually need. Often, they buy a phone that has features they don't really need, instead of being fixed on what's appropriate to them. They get trapped with phone systems that are superfluous on four grounds:

1. Not Knowing About The Products On Hand:

Before selecting a phone system you must read reviews on all systems available, in order to equip you with necessary knowledge to reach the correct decision. The reviews should include a thorough report on features and functions; specially, you should look carefully at latest features included. Can they function with regular telephones? Do they have voice mail and mail boxes? Do they have faxes and call forwarding? What amount will the wiring and installation of your telephone cost? These are a few of the matters your review must attempt to answer .

2. Not Knowing About Features And Benefits:

Do not select the telephone you want to buy for your home or office till you get sufficient information on all the features and benefits of the phone systems available in the marketplace. Your research should include garnering information on technical aspects of the different phone systems on the market, like what ports are available, and how to use them. Most importantly, your buying decision should reflect what benefits you are looking for.

3. Unaware of What Features Matter:

Features vary depending on the phone system you choose to buy. Are you purchasing for your office? Then, the auto attendant feature could be what you need. Would you like to make your receptionist redundant? Then, buy a telephone that comes with the auto attendant feature. Persons ringing up are attended by an automated voice, and either sent to an extension or told to dial 0 for help from an operator.

Do you need to take a call even if you're not in the office? Call forwarding is what you need to instruct the system to send such a call to a particular place.

Do you require intra-office communication in addition. In that case, choose a telephone that will also serve the purpose of an intercom instrument.

4. Cannot Decide The Number of Extensions They Need:

PBX, or Private Branch Exchange systems, the KSU-Less, and Key systems are the 3 main forms of systems on the market. You have to have a definite idea regarding the number of extensions you require at your office before you settle on the system to purchase.

Do you want minimum installation charges? In that case KSU-Less systems might be for you. These are portable and best fit offices that require under ten extensions. However, these phone systems are disposed to cross-talk with one person talking likely to overlap with a second one.

Does you office require up to forty extensions? In that case, PBX phone systems are ideal.

Do you need between five and forty extensions? In that case, Key phone systems are what you must buy.

Furthermore, you have to do a little bit of crystal-ball gazing and peep into the future, and foresee what size and features you'll require in future. You shouldn't bother paying something extra, but purchase a system that will be useful for at least a few years, rather than get saddled with old non-upgradable equipment.
