Quality Writing to Go with Quality Postcard Design

No matter how good your postcard design is, it will not create much of an impression without a good headline and copy. Or worse, a good design may lose its value because of a poorly written message.

Here are guidelines that you can follow to compose a write-up that can complement your postcard design.

1. Add color both to increase appeal and to highlight certain words.

The use of color has plenty of advantages, one of which is adding to the aesthetic value of prints. This feature can enhance both reader comprehension and interest.

Another ruseful trait of color is its ability to make something prominent. When emphasizing a word or a phrase, it is best to add color to it to make it automatically stand out from the sentence.

2. Use the active voice in your sentences.

This means you avoid using is, are, was and were. For example, instead of saying “We are providing…” write “We provide…”.

Also, use present tense when writing.

3. Use simple words.

Ads are meant for light reading. Avoid using highfalutin words or superfluous information. By using words that are too technical, you automatically limit the audience of your postcards, plus you also decrease message comprehension.

4. Be an expert on the matter.

Make it sound like you really know what you are talking about. Be an authority on the subject but do not sound arrogant so readers would not be appalled.

5. Create one-on-one marketing.

Use the word “you” to make sure that you achieve one-on-one marketing. This way, your clients will get the impression that you are speaking to them directly, as in a casual conversation. Maintain an informal tone to be more reader-friendly.

6. Use contractions when writing.

Using “We are...” sounds formal, as opposed to “We’re...”. Contractions reduce the formal tone, and also helps shorten the sentence or the phrase so reading would not be much of a task to the recipient of your postcard.

7. Reduce the length of your sentences.

It is important to keep your sentences short and simple. Avoid compounding them or over-explaining a concept in one whole sentence. Keep the number of words less than 16.

8. Write lines unique to your product.

Make sure that the lines you write can be easily and completely associated to your commodity. If you use clichés, they may have been used by other products before and may be recalled better than your product, aside from the major disadvantage of sounding boring.

9. Add bullets or numbers to enumerate details.

To avoid long sentences, use bullets or number some of the information. Reducing the length or cutting sentences can facilitate easy reading.

10. Use a positive tone.

Instead of telling the readers what not to do like “Do not use products that are…”, state it positively like “Use (insert your product’s name)”. By doing this, you are directly telling consumers to try your brand without mentioning your competitors. Notice the ten guidelines mentioned in this articles. All of them are written positively.

For certain copies or contents, these guidelines may not apply all at once. Nevertheless, you should follow at least five of them simultaneously so your good postcard design can have a matching well-written content.
