Once unlocked, Pace Edwards' rolling cover draws back automatically into a fully-opened position allowing you total access to all four corners your truck bed. This particular tonneau is designed to provide a discriminately smooth flush-mounted appearance. The padded polymer looks and, to the touch, feels like leather. However, it's made to last much, much longer. The single piece of padded polymer is laminated to heavy gauge aluminum panels. This design feature enables a "soft feel" while actually being classified as a hard truck bed cover. Every piece of aluminum trim is smooth, boasting a scratch resistant, black powder-coat finish. This particular truck bed cover is custom made to fit each specific make, model and year. On top of that, the structure is designed to withstand freezing temperatures and heavy snowloads alike. Not unlike the other Pace Edwards rolling covers, water is channeled off the top, into the canister mounted at the front of the bed, and, finally, out through drain tubes to help maintain a dry pickup bed. Aside from that, the Roll Top retracts automatically and can be closed singlehandedly from either side of your truck bed (The manufacturer claims a one hour installation time. Be safe and allow a little extra time for whatever challenges might arise).
The manufacturer claims the cover to be "water resistant" but not necessarily "water-tight". Know that in heavy rain conditions you'll probably get a small accumulation of water in your bed. However, we've found that installing the tailgate gasket kit can minimize water even more. For all intents and purposes, Pace Edwards rolling cover keeps the truck bed dry. A few people might complain that neither the pull strap nor a handle are standard equipment - just a hand-turned key lock at the tailgate end of the cover. Some users also complain that they found the lock itself to be cheaply constructed. On a positive note however, the lock is a standard design that's inexpensive to replace. Some concern did arise with getting the lock to properly align. Although it's suggested that installation is a one-person job, most owners with whom we've spoken found that most, if not all, alignment issues were minimized by having an extra pair of hands during installation.
Also, if your home is located on unpaved dirt roads and you must regularly on such road conditions, the tracks on which the cover rides might become clogged with dirt, dust, and other road debris from time to time. This challenge is easily overcome by using a simple garden hose to wash away the offending dirt and grime.
Major problems? Not according to the Pace Edwards Roll Top Cover owners we interviewd. Most continue to rave about their rolling covers - even following many years of ownership.
