Myth one Solicitors are greedy and out for themselves
A lot of people view the legal profession with a lot of scepticism and think that solicitors and lawyers are out to screw you over and make the most money they can. This has probably not been helped by they way they are portrayed in film and on TV. But the truth is that the legal profession is one of the most regulated in the UK and are nothing like the way they are portrayed. People thinking that you will get stung by hidden fees should know that a lot of solicitors will represent you on a no win no fee basis.

Myth two To make a claim, you will have to go to court
This again may have to do with what people have seen in films, thinking that they will have to stand up in court and be interrogated. The truth is many personal injury claims will be settled out of court long before there is any need to take things to court. Most insurers now realise that settling claims out of court are more efficient with both time and money.

Myth three Legal action will take years to sort out
Another thing that seems to put a lot of people off taking legal action is the view that legal action takes a long time to sort out. Most personal injury claims actually take around eight to twelve months to settle. But it is true more complex claims where there are disputes will take longer.

Myth four Who needs a solicitor, I can deal with things myself
To put this one simply, insurers want to settle a claim for the least amount of money possible or maybe even to get out of it. This is why you need legal professionals to make sure that you dont get taken for a ride and you receive what is fair and are entitled to.

Myth five Making a compensation claim is easy and you will be rich

For people who have a genuine claim, they will receive an amount which is fair and relative to the injury they sustained. People making false claims like you will see on TV, dont stand a chance in hell of receiving compensation. You will receive an amount that will compensate your loss of earnings and possibly some for then pain caused by the injury, but you will not be retiring and living the life of luxury after receiving compensation.
