Gordon Brown has unveiled a £1 billion plan that will help low income families and pensioners deal with the increasing energy prices and promised that it would be funded by the suppliers and producers.
The plan is meant to save people half on their energy bills as well as offering free installation of loft and cavity insulation. The prime minister said that those who needed it most would get immediate help but also added that the moves were focussed on keeping energy consumption to a minimum.
He also talked about how the £1 billion scheme will help 10 million households and ministers said that they were determined to help the middle classes as well.
Overall, 25 million homes in Britain will receive the help. This news comes at a time when it has been reported that the energy used in the cold weather months could cost the taxpayer as much as £250 million.
Ten million pensioners and benefits claimants will be eligible for the extra money and will receive an extra £25 a week if Britain suffers seven consecutive days of sub-zero temperatures.
Electricity and gas suppliers are apparently amongst the producers and suppliers that will help fund this project.
Hopefully the added loft and cavity insulation will help cut down people’s energy costs meaning that they may be able to see cheap electricity bills or at least a drop in the usual amount.
It is always essential to remember that comparing the cost of such things as heating cover can help save you a lot of money, meaning that, with all of these measures being put in place, you should start seeing a drop in the amount you are paying out on your energy bills.
