Designing brochures is a difficult project for design beginners to undertake. This is because brochure design requires many choices that you have to make in terms of the elements that you use and the options that are available to you. Because of the myriad of options available to you, there is a tendency to overdesign.

Editing then becomes an important factor in brochure design. Editing your work well however, requires taste, experience as well as a great aesthetic sense.

To make things easier for the budding designers, here are the three elements of brochure design that you should focus on:

The brochure cover

The brochure cover is the first thing that readers will notice when they pass by or glance at your brochure. In this split second, the brochure cover should be interesting enough that it captivates your audience into picking up your material instead of throwing it out in the garbage bin.


There are three things that you can use to make better brochure covers. These are: headlines, images and color. These three are very important if you want to have designs that will get your audience interested.

You need to have an interesting headline that will attract you customer. Lead with a headline that will appeal to your target audience. Address a problem, make an offer or make an announcement with regards to upcoming events.

The brochure content

After making your clients interested enough to pick up your brochure, you need to make sure that your content will not bore them. You also need to make sure that the content will feed the information about your product as simply as you can.

Your content will sell the product that you have by describing every useful detail that it has and by differentiating it to others in the market. The content of your brochures will give you the space that you need to sell your brochure effectively. That is why having a content that is readable and easy to read important. The client should be able to read the whole thing easily with out too much strain in the eyes.


You need to have a clean layout that the audience should be able to read and the content should be grouped accordingly for easy browsing. Also, the use of bullets and headlines will help in grouping things together in your brochures.

You should also focus more on the product and refrain from including ling details about your company and company history. Focus on one thing – to sell your product by making it the most important thing that your customers can have.

The all important call to action

The call to action is very important when you are creating brochures. You need to have a definite call to action in order to let your reader’s know what you want them to do next. A call to action will help in making your products sell and be more available. Also, you need to put your call to action in a prominent location so that your readers will be able to see and find it easily.
