If you begin to feel that the only time you get outside is when you hang the nappies, then leave the housework, pop baby into the pram and go for a walk around the block or through the park. Even wheeling the pram through the mall can make you feel rejuvenated. While you are out you might be able to get to know the neighbours, or arrange to meet a friend somewhere for a coffee.
Arranging a baby-sitter once a week while you take some time out for yourself is also a good idea. You may only walk to the library and back. Or you might decide to take a craft class or play some sport. Doing a crossword or a jigsaw puzzle are two home activities that can help you feel like you are still using your brain.
