Oil prices are continuously skyrocketing. Every driver is now trying to find ways to cope with this crisis. One just can’t cut down the budget he sets for his family, yet he needs to increase his gas funds. If only he has enough money, he can trade his car for a more fuel-efficient model.

There’s no need to fret, however, because there are still other ways to solve the fuel cost problem. The driver must start with the vehicle itself. He must tune it up. He must replace its clogged air filter, keep its tires properly inflated, use the right grade of motor oil, and fix its out-of-tune engine. After these, he must keep track of the vehicle’s gas mileage and he’ll be surprised on how much he saves on gas.

One of the easiest and surest ways to lessen fuel consumption is to change one’s driving habits. Unnecessary idling must be avoided as this achieves nothing but 0 miles per gallon. So if the car will be idle for more than one minute, the driver must turn the engine off. He must also learn to reduce the distance he travels by running more errands in one trip, chaining his trips, and passing through straighter and shorter alternate roads. Additionally, a driver must refuel his tank early in the morning or late in the evening. Fuel is densest at these times of the day. And when refueling, he must not overfill the tank because some of the fuel will just spill off as the gasoline warms up and expands. More so, a person who loves running at high speeds has to make sure he does not go beyond the legal speed limit. Traveling at the right and legal speed does not only provide safety but also help save gas.

One may also improve his ride’s fuel efficiency by using gas saving devices such as performance exhausts, high-grade cold air intakes, quality air filters, and many other products. Performance exhaust systems give about 1 to 2% increase in fuel economy as they reduce impurities in the cylinder, thus achieving a purer gas and oxygen mixture. And purer burn results in performance boost and fuel efficiency. Cold air intakes and performance air filters on the other hand, supply the engine with more quality air which improves engine power and consequently enhances the vehicle’s fuel economy. These are just a handful of tips to save gas. Drivers must apply them to prove to themselves that they need not worry much about the constant gas price hike.
