Getting ready for your winter vacation to the perfect mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado would mean you’re spending an awful amount of time in the snow. Colorado’s magnificent snow mountains are almost a guarantee you’ll be spending your vacation having fun all the time. You’ve decided to take on a snow related sport and now you’re trying to decide whether to try skiing or snowboarding. Here are few points to ponder before you decide which of the two would be your next favorite sport.

So you’ve never tried either sport before. It would be wise to try on the feet the gear you will probably be using. A skier as what you have seen in the movies or on the sports channel, have long slender skis with curved end towards the top attached to each of their boots. Snowboarders strap both of their feet on a board. As what the name suggest, the board of course, minus the wheels at the bottom looks like a skateboard only most of the time shinier and probably bigger. Try and move around to get the idea which device you are most comfortable with and what position. Skiers, normally face forward most of the time while skiing. If you’re a beginner and you spend most of the time skiing with your back facing forward, that is probably not good. Of course, snowboarders bottom half face forward almost all the time, switching sides along the way.

Skiing beginners use very thin but strong poles. Depending on your height, the length may vary. The poles help them maintain their balance. On top speeds; the skier assumed a crouch-like position with the knees firmly together and the poles are tucked in the armpit. These poles are also used to help skiers launch themselves to start and use it to maintain or gain speed. They also use the poles to help them stand after a fall. Don’t worry the first thing your instructor/s teach is the correct way to fall. Yes, how encouraging. Boarders however have their hands free and thus use them as well as their whole body as their balancing device. Since they don’t have a balancing device are bound to have more difficulty in balancing themselves but they should be able to scoot their way up.

On any other sport, we should always consider what type of sports injury will more likely to happen. It could not be determined which sport is more likely to cause an injury, but we should weigh the different ways you could get hurt and what injuries you are more likely to have in each sport. Skiing will be harder on the knees, so it more common for skiers to develop knee injuries. So take it easy. Snowboarding will be harder to balance, so you will be spending a lot of time of your learning process on your back side. You will be able to use muscle groups you never knew you had since most likely it will hurt right after. When falling however, snowboarders use their hands to break their fall, so wrist injuries are more likely.

We should also consider snow conditions. Breckenridge, depending on the time of season and weather conditions will have both deep, fresh snow and icy, bumpy patches so it is perfect for both snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts. Snowboarding is better suited for deep, fresh powder while skiing is a good choice if the snow is more icy and bumpy. So considering your long term plans in choosing which of the two you will be learning.
So which sport is deemed faster, skiing or snowboarding? Snowboarding is often depicted as the faster sport and so daring, daredevil, adrenaline junkies more likely linked to. But skiers who are of the same level as snowboarders are almost always faster that their snowboarder counterparts.

You will experience your muscle hurt in places you don’t even know it could hurt. So remember that you won’t become a pro overnight. Be determined and patient, you will be able to master any sport you put your heart into. Remember to prepare yourself for the sunny Breckenridge slopes by applying sunscreen and lip balm, sunburn can take all the fun, not including the unsightly red patches of uneven sunburned skin. Keep hydrated by drinking lots of water. Skiing and snowboarding are a great way to exercise, so go out and enjoy the snow and most of all, have lots of fun. You will be able to glide down the slopes with precision in no time.
