RootZoo Top 25- Week Four

A few business items to handle first:

1) There were a total of nineteen polls cast, so a team that was ranked first in all nineteen polls would receive 475 points and there were nineteen first place votes up for grabs.

2) Teams were scored from a 25-1 scale. A team ranked first in a person's poll would receive 25 points, while the team ranked twenty-fifth in a person's poll would receive 1 point. The team with the highest total of points from all ten polls was ranked #1, then the next highest #2, and so on until we reached 25 teams. The numbers in parentheses next to a team's name represent how many first place votes they received. Also included is the team's ranking from last week and their performance from the prior week.

3) There were a total of 38 teams that you guys voted for. The teams from 26-38 that did not make the Top 25 but received at least one point are listed under Others Receiving Votes at the bottom of the poll.

4) I did detailed write ups on the top five ranked teams. This will continue throughout the year. The top five teams will receive a detailed write up about their last game.

5) Thanks for participating! With week two now upon us, the next poll will be due by Tuesday September 30rd at midnight eastern time. The article for that will be posted on Wednesday or Thursday October 1st or 2nd.

Without further ado, here's the fifth RootZoo Top 25!

The Top Five:

1. USC (14)- 459 points

USC remains the number one team in the RootZoo Top 25 with a bye week this past weekend after their colossal clash against OSU. Thursday night, the Trojans prepare to face a different OSU as they open Pac-10 Conference play against the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis.

2. Florida (1)- 431 points

Florida jumps up to #2 after spending two weeks ranked #3 in the RootZoo Top 25. After a thorough thrashing of SEC rival Tennessee, Florida jumps up in this poll led by junior kick returner Brandon James and a revamped defense that is beginning to gain comparisons to UF's 2006 defense that led the Gators to the national title.

The Gators next take the field on Saturday at 12:30 as they square off in the Swamp against SEC foe Ole Miss.

3. Oklahoma- 429 points

Oklahoma falls to #3 after spending two weeks at #2 for no reason other than the Gators impressive performance. The Sooners had the weekend off after smashing Washington last Saturday. This week the Sooners again face an out of conference foe as they face the TCU Horned Frogs in Norman, a team who upset them in 2005 in Norman.

4. Georgia (2)- 422 points Georgia remains the solid #4 ranked team in the RootZoo Top 25 for another week as the Bulldogs traveled out west for the first time since the 1960s. In an impressive showing that wasn't as close as the scoreboard would indicate, Georgia and Knowshon Moreno rolled over the Arizona State Sun Devils 27-10.

This week, the Bulldogs square off against fellow SEC and top ten foe Alabama in Athens in the week's premier game.

5. Missouri (1)- 370 points Missouri holds onto the last spot in our top five again this week on the back of another strong performance by Heisman Trophy hopefuls Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin. The Tigers destroyed MAC opponent Buffalo in Columbia by a score of 42-21.

Missouri has a bye week this before traveling to face Big 12 North rival Nebraska in Lincoln on October 4th.
