Some rooms of your home are rather more difficult to improve than others. While a new bathroom suite or fitted kitchen can make dramatic transformations, it can often seem like there are less options available when it comes to the living room of your home.
After all, there's only so much that can be done by buying a new sofa. So what else can you do to add a little more sparkle to a room that you are likely to be spending a lot of time in?
The first thing to say is that a little bit of paint can go a long way. If the room feels tired and in need of refreshing then applying some paint to woodwork, for example, can immediately make things look better.
When it comes to walls, the basic advice is to look to use relatively neutral colours - you'll be able to add more colour using accessories, without putting off potential sellers if you ever choose to sell the property.
Wallpaper is a subject that crops up in many conversations about decorating. There has been a feeling that it's rather old fashioned, but a new breed of designers have started to produce wallpapers that are stylish and modern.
By making intelligent use of wallpapers, it's perfectly possible to create an original, unique look. Some still steer clear, partly because of the perceived difficulty involved in hanging, but don't rule it out without at least taking a look at what's available.

Another interesting feature that you might consider would be to install a fireplace. These don't simply add a new form of heating to the room - they can also add a real sense of style. One obvious factor for many is that they allow you to remove any ugly radiators from your living room.
They are also fashionable in their own right, so are well worth thinking about.
Don't forget to take a look at the floor too - you're not simply limited to choosing carpets. There are so many different flooring solutions available that you can make a real statement of intent. If you own a period property, for example, then you might consider exposing floor boards.
There are plenty of ways in which you can improve your living room. With a bit of thought and a little effort you can really change your surroundings.
