The Virgin Islands are a group of scenic isles located in the Caribbean. The islands are surrounded by clear blue and green water, and have many delights to offer holiday makers.

1. One of the best activities to indulge in is underwater exploring. The Virgin Islands are a treasure trove for underwater explorers. For those inclined to dive or snorkel, there are many facilities available on the island. The coral reefs form wide expanses in the water, supporting exquisite species, right from sea horses, to more exotic marine life forms. There are submerged caves and stunning vistas that unfold dramatically under water. The more adventurous can even choose to swim alongside sharks, stingrays and eagle rays.

2. A rather unusual sport that one can pursue in the Virgin Islands is night kayaking. There are many travel agents who provide this option to paddle after the sun has set. The experience is quite surreal as one drifts downstream in the moonlight, but it is thoroughly enjoyable. At this bewitching time, it is even possible to view the very spot where Columbus landed.

3. There is a great deal of history in the Islands, and these historical sites are well worth a visit. There are the graceful ochre buildings at Christiansted, which was once the bustling capital of the Dutch-colonized West Indies. The old Fort Christiansvaern and the Scale House, which has actually retained some of its old scales, are some very interesting sight seeing spots. There is the also the town of Charlotte Amalie, whose history claims was a thriving trading centre. Today it fulfils a modern-day version of its former self and is filled with duty-free shops and boutiques.

4. Fourth on the list is a visit to the National Park of the Virgin Islands: a truly spectacular site. This region is sure to enthral visitors with its flora and fauna. Among the myriad attractions that the Park holds, it also has marine areas. Therefore activities consist of snorkelling and diving, as well as, other land-based ones. Trunk Bay is perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches in St. John, and is part of the National Park.

5. Another fun activity is to go sailing in the ocean around the islands. Some tourists take their own yachts and tour around enjoying the ocean breeze and the Caribbean air. Sailing is really a great way to enjoy the outdoors and relax.
