Surrey is perceived as a monied suburban region that is home to many London commuters. as a result, the area is often labelled the gin & jag, stockbroker belt or the patio of London. although, the county has much more to offer than merely residences.

Indeed, 70 percent of Surrey is green-belt land, which can not be built on or turned into suburban residences. This makes the county a wonderful place for ramblers, riders and cyclists to visit for a calm day out.

Despite the vast amount of London commuters in Surrey, it is still a fabulous place to visit for a weekend away or holiday. After all, the county has impressive greenery, fabulous stores, pretty market towns & some superb heritage sites, so it offers something for everyone. in actual fact, whether you are a rambler, a cyclist or even just an ardent shopper, we're sure that you will find something to please you in this impressive county.

Surrey can be easily accessed from London by rail or road, which makes it the perfect place to visit for a day out, too.

As we've probably already informed you, Surrey is the most wooded county in great britain. This is represented by Surrey County Council's emblem, which shows a pair of linked oak leaves.

The varied land scape of the county boasts old woodlands, acid heaths & stunning grasslands. in actual fact, the Surrey Hills, which stretch across 1/4 of the county, are so stunning that they have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This terrain was made in 1958 and spans from Farnham to Oxted, & it extends further south to the wooded Greensand Hills near Haslemere.

If you're looking for a great family day out, you could attend one of the open days at Busbridge Lakes for a impressive picnic. alternatively, you could take in the beautiful scenery situated around the striking Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower or even at Outwood, which is home to the the oldest working windmill in great britain. The more adventurous visitor could also consider taking a boat ride along the Wey Navigation or even going on a cycle ride along the Downs Link Path.

In addition to these outdoor activities, you'll also be happy to know that the Surrey towns of Leatherhead, Chertsey and Farnham boast occasionally great museums, which contain the Ash Museum. For art fans, there's also the Forge & Dragon galleries or the Watts Picture Galleries, both of which exhibit some high-quality work. alternatively, you could visit the superb Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, which has over 500 different beers for you to try.

If you are planning to do some shopping in Surrey, you will find that Guildford has everything you need and more. As well as numerous specialist shops, you will also find well-known brands such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Boots, marks and spencer and wh smith here. In addition to this, the town also boasts a well known street market on Fridays and Saturdays.

For a more old fashioned shopping experience, drop by Farnham. This pretty town remains extremely old-fashioned with some fantastic specialist shops which are located just below Farnham Castle.

Ultimately, we think that Surrey truly has something for everyone to enjoy. For more information on hotels, attractions and the county's historic woodland, please contact your local tourist information centre.
