If you love to quilt then you are probably always on the lookout for quilt squares. Luckily, quilt squares can literally be found anywhere. In fact, some people will use old clothing or blankets to create new "vintage" quilts or memory quilts. For example, you could make a quilt for your newborn grandchild using pieces of your own child's favorite clothes or blankets. Some people have found using pieces of stuffed animals quite useful, too, as well as a way to add texture to the quilt.

Should you want to create a brand new quilt with no old pieces then there is no reason to be discouraged. There are plenty of fabric stores you can visit to browse their fabric selections. Once you find various fabrics you like all you have to do is buy the fabric and cut them into squares. Many stores also sell pre-cut fabric squares in various fabric selections. This is excellent for those who are short on time or who like to take the easy way out!

If you are shopping for quilt squares that are already cut then they come in something called a charm pack. This is a pack of fabric squares and they are all complementary. You buy a charm pack and have enough squares to create an entire quilt. Usually, they are related by theme or color, but they always have something that bring them together.

You can find all kinds of quilts like those with fabrics for the holidays, cartoons, flowers, matching colors, and the like. If you can't find charm packs that you like in your local fabric store you should consider shopping online. You will have a much wider selection and a better chance of finding the perfect charm pack. Of course, you can always create your own charm pack if you can't find exactly what you are looking for.

Remember, too, that the charm packs are only the quilting squares. You will need to buy other fabric to complete the quilt and this allows you to get as creative as you want. Five people could make quilts from the same charm pack and end up with five very unique and distinct quilts.

These are just a few tips to help you find the right quilt squares for your next and subsequent quilts. Be creative, have fun, and enjoy making quilts. It is a dying art form that should be kept alive! Keep quilting!
