Is there a connection between fatiguing mental exertion, like analysis and creative thinking, and weight gain?
Appetite can be enhanced by excessive mental work. As some may know, actual physical work is as exhausting as mental strain. Mental labor, according to research, "destabilizes" insulin and glucose levels hence leading one to eat more due to increase in hunger. A boost in appetite can be induced by several elements, many of which are connected to one's mind.
A major mental factor is one that is induced by mental challenges - stress. Stress is attributed to eating more. In the past, even I tend to eat a bit more when I'm stressed out. This reply of your body to your state of mind will be impulsive as soon as you let your guard down.
Rats are no different from us. Glucocorticoid steroid hormone, or cortisol in humans, is released by rats when they are chronically stressed, as researchers discovered. This drives the rats to excitedly partake in pleasure-seeking conducts. These acts would sooner help them form abdominal obesity because of all the high-energy foods that they ate.
Abdominal obesity, or commonly "belly fat," is due to excessive or nonessential eating. It has been associated to increased possibility of heart attacks, diabetes, strokes and more illnesses and disease. Getting rid of stress before it gets out of hand is more desirable than relieving it with a greasy burger and a large soda!
British researchers incriminate boredom and loneliness too. About 50 percent of adults eat too much because of boredom and loneliness. Potato chips and ice cream is just a few comfort foods to avoid. These foods are commonly eaten in large heaps passing along large volumes of fat in return!
There's no reason to not be aware of your hunger at the end of a tiring day at work now that you in the know. You should eat, by all means, if you are truly hungry. Just be positive that what you eat is healthy and would afford you with the essential nourishment. Eating a well balanced healthy diet and workout is a secure way to take the woes of your weight off your mind.
