You visit to Madrid will begin by arriving in Barajas airport in the north of the city. The airport is about 25-30 minutes on the metro which I usually very prompt and frequent. There are influxes of low cost airlines that fly daily to Madrid so you will not be short of choice when choosing your flights.
Although Madrid is a major European city, it is unlike many others due to the diversity of its offering to all visitors. There are plenty of shops that you will find all around the city but the culture of the city comes shining through when you look deeper.
Intense artistic and cultural activity and a lively nightlife is a good way to describe Madrid. The city is home to some fantastic parks such as the botanical gardens which houses around 30,000 different types of trees and plants. The Retiro Park is as equally impressive, the 130 hectares of woodland is the largest and (some say) most impressive of the Madrid parks. The woodlands form an island in the middle of an asphalt sea and are fantastic to see and experience.
For art lovers, the Prado Museum is considered as one of the most important in the world as it is home to some of the world’s most famous artists including Goya, Botticelli and Rembrandt. The royal palace is no longer used as a residence for the king but tourists can look around at most of the important rooms.
The cuisine available in Madrid is exquisite, the food and wine is second to none and dining in one of the many tapas bars is a great way to relax after a days sightseeing. There are many traditional dishes to try and why not have a glass of traditional Spanish wine to go with it. Many bars serve a tapa with a glass of wine or beer and is nice to sit and take a break from a busy but enjoyable day.
