Lanzarote is the furthest east of all the Canary Islands and its Swiss presence is evident with regards to its strict building regulation resulting in its orderly layout in terms of its villages. It has an interesting volcanic history which is available to see at one of its underground concert halls or maybe at its lava fuelled barbeques.

Lanzarote has great sightseeing opportunities although you will not be able to roam freely due to its volcanic personality. Tours are readily available whether its by bus, camel or train. One sight you need to visit is the Timanfaya National Park which provides you the opportunity to see all of its lava flows and ash strewn cones.

Lanzarote has a great duty free selection in all of its main resorts with the option to pick up genuine items such as complicated lacework created by nuns or jewellery made using the local olivine stone from the more traditional villages.


If it is Spanish entertainment you are after then you have come to the wrong island, the venues within Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen are filled with neon's, bingo, karaoke and bars.

As you would expect, seafood plays a huge part in the islands' cuisine with fresh fish salted and grilled on an open fire one of the popular dishes. Tapas is also a keen favourite on the Island. The vineyards also produce a great Malvasia wine even with its inhospitable milieu.

Lanzarote is a highly catholic town and all hooligan antics are frowned upon including topless or nude sunbathing.
