The Holy House of Mercy, in Macau, is home to the old, poor, but not forgotten people of Our Lady of Mercy Home for the Aged. It has a few more distinctions, including being the first charity organization in Macau, launching the first raffle in Macau for the aid of the elderly and being the home of several historical exhibits, especially art and other objects of religious significance.
Among the exhibits are tickets from that first raffle conducted by the Holy House of Mercy. The prize exhibits of the museum are the ones of Dorn Belchior Carneiro. Carneiro was the one who founded not only the Holy House of Mercy, but also St. Raphael Hospital, in the sixteenth century.
The Holy House of Mercy has various artifacts related to Carneiro, including his skull, his cross and a life size oil painting of the founder. It also has a bronze bell that had been part of St. Raphael Hospital. At the Alley of Mercy, next to the Holy House of Mercy, is a bronze statue of the patron and founder, philanthropist Dorn Belchior Carneiro.
While you are in Macau, you should definitely take the time to explore the incredible shopping and entertainment opportunities in the city.
