In the study, being published Thursday in The New England Journal of Medicine, 86 patients who had the operation fared no better over two years than 86 who had physical therapy and took medications to dampen inflammation.
If you have been listening to the news or reading articles lately you have heard that many are beginning to say that we are doing too many knee replacements. Especially that too many are being done too early on younger people.
How many of us have thought, wow, that’s pretty young for a full knee replacement. Early 40’s? How many more will they have to have if they live into their 80’s which they probably will?
I didn’t want to be there and I was hurting bad a few years ago. I tried liniments, over the counter pain relievers to the tune of 40 or more every week. I had to get through the afternoon and then I had to be able to get to sleep because I had to do it all again the next day.
