Homeless in Patong
It wasn’t exactly what we had planned, far from it. To be stuck-suitcases in hand in one of the most beautiful resorts in the Pearl of the Andamans AKA Phuket, Thailand. But if it hadn’t been for George’s pig headedness we wouldn’t be in this situation now. We had originally planned to stay at a such and such hotel in Patong for a week’s relaxing holiday. It was a package deal and all was booked. I won’t mention the name of the hotel since I don’t really intend to damn them. You’ll see why in a minute.
So all was booked, the flight was great and the transfer went so so smoothly to our final destination. OK so the hotel wasn’t that great and it didn’t look much like the hotel we’d seen in the brochure, but what did we really expect for a bucket shop bargain basement deal flown in by Mr. Biman Bangladesh? Not a lot. The hotel itself was modest in my opinion, it had running water, a tv, a bed in the room, a hotel restaurant and bar and games room. Air conditioning in each room, staff and room service-all not necessarily in that order! It was close to the beach, a stone’s throw to the sea. Could you ask for more? My George did, the fact that the pool had no water in it was a huge disappointment for George. The hotel manager explained that the pool was undergoing maintenance. (I work in logistics and sure these things happen right?) The manager even offered us dinner service of our choice for free for the whole time we were staying-what more could you ask for? George could, he was so furious that he (we) stormed out of the hotel suitcases in hand to look for another hotel. No taxis or tuk-tuks to be seen, so here we are on foot looking for good but cheap hotels to stay in Patong, “I think not!” Since it was a package deal I explained to the numbskull, it was definitely at a much reduced price already. To find a hotel of even similar standard (despite having no pool) would be nigh on impossible. So this time I put my foot down and demanded that he pay extra and put us up in one of the best hotels around. We did finally find a taxi, “cheap hotel stay in Patong?” he asked. Not for me I said take us to one of the best hotels around please.
