There is an overwhelming library of information available
out there on starting your own internet business.
For the most part the marketing information is good and well
intentioned, but this overload makes it difficult for the
beginner in marketing to find direction. Many want help when
it comes to what advice to follow or what tool or resource
to purchase.
It has been my experience over time that this kind of
information overload leads to little or no action and
discouragement on the part of the new online business owner.
This is a problem because if they were guided down the right
path from the start, there may have been a possibility of
success.
Here is an idea of some of the key elements needed
preferably from the beginning of an online business or
marketing project that will help lessen the "paralysis of
analysis" that comes from this overload.
Contrary to what is spoken of in some marketing circles, the
very first thing you need to do is find your passion and I mean this
in a business sense. What I mean by this is to find in yourself, the
one thing whether it is a product or service that you absolutely love
and are facsinated with.
Perhaps you could even look for products and services that are not
the same but related to what ever topic you arrive at. It does not
matter what the masses say, trust me on this just from experience
alone. There is a wealth of information available as well as help,
but that is a topic of its own.
The key element that I can't place enough emphasis on is that you
need to TAKE ACTION! This is the where almost everyone fails and it
took even me a long time to figure this out. It accounts for a lot
of money left on the table if I had just followed the advice I am
giving you now.
The very next thing that needs to be done and you may have heard the
opposite from countless other "experts", is this it does not matter
whether it is a product or service in a hot market, what you need to
do is simply put your own unique twist on it to fit what the
customers or target market want.
I do encourage you to research your market, brainstorm, create a
mastermind group, conduct many surveys. Do something whatever it
takes to stay focused on the end objective--to develop or leverage a
product that accurately reflects your passion.
It is my highest recommendation to new online business people to
avoid falling into the trap of all the false promises and hype that
are out there and to get your own product developed first. The key
here is to map out and research and then logically--put it into
action!
Your first product or bundle of products or services may not turn out
as you had envisioned but at least you got something done. You in
effect beat out the other 98% of all aspiring online business owners.
All that is left to do is get the product in front of your target
market by promoting it.
Something important to note right here is the importance of tracking
and testing your efforts. After all if you aren't tracking and
testing your promotions, how do you know what is effective and what
is not?
At this point I've given you a brief overview of how to avoid being
caught on the carousel of paralysis and getting your dreams into
action. This is one of the first steps to getting to whatever your
business goals might be. It is useful to break the goals up and
write them into a plan. Just like any business venture, it is a
business and needs to be treated as seriously as you would any other.
In my next installment we are going to cover the reasons why starting
your business with little to no money of your own is the best way to
get started in online business and marketing in my opinion.
