What are car auctions?
Car auctions are places where the public, government, police, large companies and many other groups of people sell their cars on one day to the highest bidder.

Why you should consider buying from car auctions
Buying a car from an auction provides you with the best opportunity to save loads of cash and pick up a real bargain.
Many of the sellers of the cars are desperate to offload them and will expect to take a much smaller amount of cash in return for getting rid of the cars.
This is not because the cars are damaged or unreliable (although you should check the car over thoroughly before you buy) but most of the cars are ex police vehicles or ex government vehicles. Now we know that the police and government have taken good care with these vehicles and that they have been serviced regularly, but every 3 years the police and government buy a new fleet of vehicles which means that they need to sell the old vehicles ASAP to free up valuable space and get in some cash for the old fleet.

How much could you save?
This question all depends on the day and the quality of the auction. It is not unheard of for people to save up to 90% off the book price of a vehicle although this is not too common. An average estimate would be in the region of 30%.

Essential tips
1. You will need your driving license and another form of ID on the day of the auction to buy a vehicle.
2. You will also need to have the full amount of cash available if you win a bid because you will need to pay for your purchase in full on the day.
3. If you do not have a good knowledge of cars, take a friend or pay a mechanic to go with so that you do not buy a dud.
4. Get to the auction early so you can check out all of the vehicles before the bidding starts.

5. Take a copy of the Kelly blue book with you so that know how much every car is worth.
6. Get the vehicle identification number (VIN) and get a free carfax report on the history of the car.
7. Lastly, DO NOT GET INVOLVED IN A BIDDING WAR!
