Motivation is not something you're born with. And certainly if you've grown up in a negative environment, you probably suffer from a lack of it. I'm sure you've heard of how many times we've heard the word NO before we've reach puberty...thousands of times. But as we grow older we start to realize that motivation is the key to achieving a lot of great things. Maybe you want to try out for a sports team at school or perform in a school play. Motivation will play a very important key as to whether you are a player or just a spectator.

You see, you can't just sit back and wish that term paper completed on time or wish the high paying job falls in your lap. You cannot simply slack off and drink yourself to death or you may never get ANY job.

So how can you motivate yourself?

For a lot of people who have been burned out in school or the workplace, this can be a difficult thing to accomplish. However, there are a few tips you can do when you feel that you cannot push yourself to do what you know you need to do.

-First of all, know exactly what it is you want. What are you attempting to motivate yourself to do? Do you merely want to finish a job, or do you want to earn a lot of money? Set real achievable goals for yourself. If you know exactly what you want, believe me, you can get it, and therefore you can motivate yourself to get it.

- Give whatever you do, purpose. Make it mean something to you. The problem with a lot of people is that they work hard but they don't know what their working for. Is it just money to pay the bills? Are they simply working toward money? Do you want money, or does your money have a purpose? Give yourself a real reason so that you can know what you are working for. Just striving for money is an empty goal; striving for money so that you can get a good house and a nice car might be more tangible; striving for more money so that you can help your siblings go to college, your parents to enjoy their retirement, and your family to have a better house and car might be even better.

- Do yourself a favor and take a break. Sometimes, being burned out means that you need to stay away from things for a second, have some time alone for yourself, and get an objective view from a friend of your situation. When you start getting tired more often, your body might be telling you to slow down; slowing down could mean re-energizing yourself by taking a vacation, or even just taking a walk. You may want to set aside some alone time each day for you to get recharged, so that you are not constantly being barraged with work.

- Above all and this is an important one, Don't be afraid to say no. People who have a problem saying no almost always are stressed out or are hiding that they are stressed out. Eihter way, it isn't good. Keep your work to a manageable level. You need to stay sane to keep on working in the long run.

- Lastly, don't feel bad about rewarding yourself for a job well done! Plan a trip for yourself, or promise to take yourself to the movies if you complete your work by a certain time or date. Little rewards, such as a banana split, can work too.
