“Start Your Japanese Training Here”

You've decided you want to learn Japanese? Well, you’ve come to the right place. I'll help you get started on the right foot with some simple things you can say in everyday conversation just in case you’re in Japan looking for a great serving of sushi or maybe a date with a sumo wrestler. Hey, I don’t judge. Anyway, sit back and we’ll get you on your way to speaking Japanese.

It's always good to start with something very simple, like saying hello. If you’re answering a phone and saying hello in Japanese, you’d say moshimoshi. Simple enough? And when you end your conversation, you’d say adiosu. Now we just have to figure out what you’re going to say in between hello and goodbye. That’s hard enough in any language. Some people just never know what to say.

You might find yourself in a hotel and want to order room service. You're hungry and you'd like to order some food. Unfortunately, there are as many different words for food in Japanese as there are in English. For example,if you'd like to order a bowl of rice you’d say donburi. If you have a baby with you and want to order some baby food, you’d say ikujishoku. How about a piece of devil’s food cake, it’s debiruzufu-doke-ki.

Now you've decided you’re ready to go and check out the Tokyo nightlife and you need a taxi to take you to the show? In that case you’d ask for a takushi. If it’s a privately owned taxi, the word is kojintakushi. If you want to find where the nearest taxi stand is, you’d use either teishajou or teishaba. If you're feeling generous and you want to give the cab driver a big tip, the word is kokorodzuke, which is actually Japanese for gratuity. There isn't a Japanese equivalent for the word tip.

You’re probably wondering how I know this stuff. Well, there are plenty of places online where you can learn Japanese. In my signature, you’ll find a review of a great resource that will teach you Japanese easily and cheaply, no matter what your reason is for wanting to learn.
