As many types of rugs are there, as many are the techniques of their creation. Contemporary rugs, for instance, are hand woven over manual looms. Exclusive pattern rugs and some of the custom rugs are built on semi-automatic looms. Some other modern rugs in the carpet rugs category are built on the fully automatic machines. Each loom, be it manual or semi-auto, has its own type of weaving.

Most of those created on the fully automatic machines have common pattern normally. You need to identify the type of machine used to create the rug, before you can attempt to repair the minor problems. If the fixing pattern is disturbed, the whole rug gets disassembled gradually. We will discuss some of the common problems here.

Drying Up:
Some portions of your rugs sometimes show roughness while you touch them. When the hair is less, it looks like the portion has dried up. If you notice it in the initial phase, you can yourself handle it. Pour some distilled water over the portion. Smoothly brush it using a soft brush. At the same time, try to dry it up using a hot air blower. If you notice the problem very late, that is, most portions are almost dry with no hair at all, do not attempt anything on yourself. Refer the case to the expert, in such a case.

Drenching:
Your rug had a bath! Due to some reasons, a major portion of your rug got drenched. It can happen that you left the window open, while it was raining or a situation that a jug full of water fell from the table on the rug. In any case, the effect is bad smell, disfigured and blunt hair. If a small portion is affected, it can be dried up under the sun. However, if it is a major problem, taking it to a rug cleaner is the only option left, if one does not wish to change it. These kinds of problems would not be very easy on your pockets.

Holes:
Very often it happens that your rugs get holes at different places. You went out for a three month vacation and returned to see that some rodents played with your rug and gave it holes. Sometimes in an attempt to move the table on the rug, you accidentally pierce the rug. There is no home remedy for it. Even if you try to stitch the portion, as the rug has its own weaving pattern, it does not help. You need to contact someone who is proficient in refurbishing such affected rugs and has several years of weaving experience. Small time weavers may provide only a temporary solution while charging almost the same.

Fading:
Your rug fades out. The reason may be anything. With time, the rug loses its luster. If you used the rug for an outdoor function, the hot sun may cause the rug to lose the color. Whatever be the reason, it is possible that the original color is restored. But it is essential that the person handling the restoration is able to do it properly, so that you get the same old color and not some variation of that color. Again, for such problems, you need a professional with many years of service. Newbies cannot help much in such a case for a quality output.

There are still many other problems that may pop up any time. The main thing is that you should attend to it as soon as possible instead of waiting till it gets worse.
