The Amsterdam Dungeon is a horror based attraction a little way from Dam Square on the Rokin. It provides a really funny and scary couple of hours with brilliant live actors who will scare any person to death one minute and make that person laugh the head off the next!
One will be taken back the city's darkest moments, from the torture chamber and plague ravaged streets to life on a VOC ship. A person will be dragged in front of the dreaded Council of Blood, lost in the perilous mirror maze and will even make the final journey aboard the terrifying Reaper Drop Ride To Doom.
With the use of interactive shows and live actors the Amsterdam Dungeon is anything other than a dusty museum, bringing history to life in a scary yet funny way. It's really popular with older children and as it is fully indoors can provide great entertainment whatever the weather.
Archeologists of the city of Amsterdam found an old graveyard that belonged to the former 'Nieuwezijds Chapel', located near the Rokin, near Dam Square. The floor that was found contains hundreds of tombstones, the oldest one is from 1596. At the location there used to be the Nieuwezijds Kapel, a church founded in honor of the Miracle of Amsterdam. The church was built in 1345 on the remains of the house where the miracle happened, and broken down in 1908.
Highlight of the one and a half hour tour through the heavily themed Amsterdam Dungeon is the ride finale inside a real church building. On more than 100m of track 400 visitors per hour can live-through the horror trip which guides them through the old site passing a full range of half-alive creatures and other inhabitants. Around every corner of "Reaper - Drop Ride to doom" there is something new. A World's first with this type of coaster is the vertical lift right at the beginning.
