Read The Job Description.
The first stage of the interview preparation process is to read the Job Description and Person Specification carefully. It will also give you the opportunity to highlight the key points you need to make at interview to persuade the interviewer that you do meet all of the requirements.


Conduct an Investigative Research.
Before you go through the door, it is essential that you conduct a detailed research on the company beforehand so that you can showcase that knowledge during the interview. The interview is NOT the time to get to find out about the employer's business. Begin your research with the company's Website, press kit, annual report, and other literature. Talk to people who have worked there. Many organizations will offer you the chance to talk about the vacancy with someone, so use the opportunity to find out more about the company. Find out what its competitors and clients say about it, conduct an information interview, and read any materials published in the media, including newspapers, trade publications, business indexes, and the Internet. At the interview, you need to know about the company’s products, services, current projects, revenues, goals, problems, history, size, financial status, industry, reputation, image, management style, people, philosophy and competitors. You should also be able to address specific issues and challenges currently facing the company to demonstrate your knowledge of the company and to show how you can be an asset there.


Be Prepared for Behavioral Interview Questions.
Behavioral interviewing is a technique increasingly adopted by interviewers. In this type of interviewing, you will be asked to give specific examples of when you demonstrated particular behaviors or skills in order to evaluate your potential for success in the role. The goal of the behavorial interview is to assess your ability to respond to the sorts of situations that the job may present you with. The questions asked will therefore be based on the job description, the performance indicators, the skills/personal qualities required and the interviewer's knowledge of operating in the role.The basic premise of the behavioral interview is that past performance is a good predictor of future performance, so when you give an example, you must describe in detail the specific situation, how you actually dealt with the situation, and what the outcome was. An example of a behavioral question is: “Give me an example of how you solved a problem”, or “Give us an example of something particularly innovative that you have done that made a difference in the workplace”. You should be prepared to answer behavioral interview questions confidently and competently. You may use work experience, hobbies, volunteer work, or school projects where you demonstrated relevant skills listed on the job description, as examples of your past behavior.


Conduct Mock Interviews.
Prior to your interview, rehearse beforehand by conducting mock interviews with family or friends to evaluate your interview performance and perfect your own answers to potential questions. Utilize the detailed discussion and interview answers in the following section to help you prepare and strategize for future interviews.

Secure Your References.
Find at least three key people - former employers, colleagues, or instructors - who are willing to serve as your business and personal references. Be sure to get their permission beforehand, and be certain that they will speak highly of you if contacted.


Here are some additional tips for interview success:

1. Do not smoke, chew gum, or eat garlic beforehand.
2. Dress conservatively and wear a good smart suit. Your clothing should be neat, pressed, and professional looking.
3. Make sure to have a fresh haircut and clean, manicured nails.
4. Know where you’re going beforehand. Make sure to find out where the office is and how to get there.
5. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the interview.
6. Greet the panel with 'Good Morning/Afternoon'
7. Make sure your mobile is switched off.
8. Always address the interviewers by their last name.
9. Demonstrate your enthusiasm for the job in your replies and body language.
10. Ask for questions to be repeated or clarified if necessary.
11. Avoid phrases like 'I suppose, "I don't know", "I'm not sure", 'I think', 'I would,' If,' and 'I wish,' etc.'
12. Check the tone and volume of your voice throughout the interview.
13. Listen carefully and answer questions succinctly and directly.
14. Adopt a good posture and look alert and interested always. Don’t cross your arms, fidget, tap your feel, sprawl or lean forward anxiously.
15. Use any opportunity to refer to your strengths in the answers you give.
16. Carry two extra copies of your CV with you in a portofolio.
17. Show energy, a sense of humour and smile warmly.
18. Never sound desperate for the job.
19. Use a note pad and make notes. Making notes always gives a good impression
20. Remember - You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
