This Is How Miliionaires Think
Since I was a child, I'd had been advised in this way on a constant basis. But I was a fool. I went instead to university to study Engineering, and afterwards became a Technical writer , finally doing what I felt I should have been doing since I was born. I didn't realise this until I again met Bull Gates.
Bull is not a scrawny guy with spectacles. We played football together at FSU. He looks remarkably like me. Very handsome guy. We met again, just a few weeks ago, on an online forum for rich guys. He had, according to him, tried to register as Bill which was his real name, but was told someone else had that login . You can guess how pissed he was about rich people getting everything - and the spirit behind his burning desire to get even richer.
It is often quite surprising though how the brokeass guys, who always bummed money to buy a fag from you while in college often turn up later a whole lot richer than you. But I didn't mind anyway, and Bull Gates suddenly became my closest confidante and adviser and I still wonder how I'd managed without him all these years.
"There is one important point that needs to be followed if you want to be a millionaire", Bull was telling me yesterday. We met frequently at The Cock and Bull - a very cosy pub that had nothing to do with him,nor with gay guys.
"First, you must DO what you love, add enormous value, and leverage it"
Now that was just up my street, and I enthusistically agreed with him . But there was Bull, wagging a warning finger,
"This of course doesn't apply Timi,if all you love to do is watch footie, go to the pub after,and then wake up next morning in a strange girl's bed"
"You know I don't do that anymore Bull. Well.at least not a lot", I had defended myself.
" But before you start to DO, you must first begin to THINK like a millionaire"; he had continued. And that was the spark that lit up that time worn advice.
"What exactly does that mean Bull; I have certainly heard it many times before?", i asked him
"Timi,it means that you must get your thinking away from inside The Survival Zone. You must mentally place yourself outside The Survival Zone. Tell me, how do you know that someone has become a millionaire ?"
"Well, they always have a lot to give don't they ?", I'd truthfully replied.
"Quite right",Bull nodded. "Millionaires are always giving. That's how you see them coming. Other people are always queueing up to receive from them"
"Well you can't keep that up for very long, can you ? You'll run out of bread in no time", I wanted to disagree.
"The truth of it all is that you do have and continue to have more than you need when you make a habit of making other people better off. Otherwise you are still locked into The Survival Zone mentality. Really wealthy people want more only because they want to have more to give"
" Too simple, Bull. Anyone must be nuts to believe that", I told him.
"Again you are quite right - it is all so very simple. The function, purpose and attitude of a millionaire is to GIVE. It is never about TAKE. And you can't give unless you have abundance . A millionare GIVES because he IS abundance"
" Guess there are a whole lot of guys out there with their ass in hock and only pretending to be wealthy. How about putting something into my Writers' Benevolence Fund ;I had hopefully added.
"Patience Timi", Bull said. "Are you mentally out of The survival Zone yet?"
"Well if you say so", I truthfully told him.
"Okay, from OUTSIDE The Survival Zone I want you to now begin to think how to add as much value as possible to what you love doing. Do you know how important it is to do the things you like doing ?"
"It will be a damn lot more interesting, I guess", I'd replied .
" Lovely. Also in that way you succeed in neutralising most of the obstacles that may cause you to fail - the greatest of which is to be found doing what you were not physically,mentally or spiritually fashioned to do".
"That's really neither here nor there"; I again pointed out. "I know a lot of rich guys who are not doing what they would rather be doing"
"Most likely not really rich then; probably just surviving"
"Like ass in hock ?"
"Something like that. Most are just struggling to keep afloat in a sea of debt,I suspect. It is possible to make millions by doing and undoing. However,you just don't have the peace, gratitude and sense of wealth that come from the added value approach . You will also not be walking in abundance"
"So you think I can really make it as a Writer ?", I was anxious to know.
"Of course, Timi . As long as you truly enjoy doing what you're doing. You can be rich beyond your wildest dreams"
"Now that's really great news to me Bull. I'd thought that hope was lost. Are you still going to put some money in my Writers' Benevolence Fund ?", I'd again hopefully added.
"Make a wish", Bull had said to me.
